Eindhoven is a strong technology center located in the south
of the Netherlands, where large companies from the High Technology and
Automotive sectors are present. Because it always need qualified and
experienced professionals, companies like MCA are looking for these qualified people
anywhere in the world. MCA is a consultancy company that is present in several
countries in Europe and the office for MCA Netherland is here, in Eindhoven.
It’s a very different company from what I used to know, it is really about the
engineers, there is a whole concern about where the consultant will lead his
career and if he's working on a project that he really likes!
Nowadays the city is a great mix of cultures and
nationalities, families who have moved away from their home countries because
one of them found a great job opportunity here. ESI (Expat Spouses initiative) was created by
Kavitha Varathan, three years ago. To support the wives who normally came to
the city without knowing more than their own family, without employment but
with professional experiences and even qualified.
Kavitha invited MCA to a wonderful event at TU/e University
last month, the ESI Live Tech. The event starts with a brief introduction of
Kavitha, who today has more than 1000 wives in her network. According to
Kavitha, 86% of these wives say that if they can’t find a job here, they will
return to their country of origin. These numbers are impressive and makes us
understand why she created the initiative that today helps so many people. What
would happen if these wives really wanted to go back? They would probably take
their husband with them, their family. All the work of attracting the most
brilliant professionals to Eindhoven would end at that moment.
After her, Jo van Ham Vice president of the Executive Bord of
TU/e presented some other impressive numbers about the university. What
impresses me the most, is the fact that 50% of the PhD students are
internationals, not born in the Netherlands, they come from other countries. He
left the event, and a panel discussion began. Various topics were discussed,
such as keeping internationals here, as well as attracting more women to
technology… among others.
The subject: The future
of Technology is the future of people. The future of people is the future of
Technology.
And then starts the presentation of the candidates!! In an
audience format, 17 candidates presented themselves. Each one had about five
minutes to do this, which was enough for companies to know enough to pick up
the sign:
Hire Now Or Let’s catch up for a Drink
I loved
this format, the candidates had all the attention of the audience and the sign
left the situation more comfortable, even more fun! There were some other
companies like MCA, who were also in the event in search of a good candidate. Each
company had approximately three minutes to introduce itself and the
representatives were still open for questions.
Some
conversations… drinks and I couldn’t find a candidate who could fit in the
vacancies that we have at the moment. Not this time! But I'm still looking for
the right candidate!
